Summer Happenings For This IMer

July 19, 2013 · Print This Article

My summer is 2/3 over because it started when my kids finished their finals, which was May 17th. So what do I have to show for it so far?

Summer is never business as usual. I would like to say I had my laptop out by the pool but I don’t have a pool and I can’t see my laptop screen outside. So it seems I get to split my time in more directions – get some work done, go for a run or bike ride, back inside to hide from the heat and get more work done, build a bookshelf, go to the movies with my son, and so on.

Here are some of the highlights, and then it’s your turn to tell me yours.

While I’ve certainly not been writing blog posts, I have written several new PLR packs and listed them at a discount.
Vegetable Gardening
Affiliate Marketing
Internet Marketing

And I’ve been promoting people who put out high quality products such as Nicole and Melissa’s Coach Glue, Sharyn’s Business Content PLR and Jimmy Brown’s Contentaire.

I’ve also been working hard at the business I co-own with a partner. We’re doing great with it although I’m having to adjust my marketing a bit because we create and sell a physical product. Some things are so different and I’m loving the challenge. This is where I’ve been spending a lot of my time.

And next weekend I’m going to Ken McArthur’s JVAlertLive. It’s right here in Denver so how can I not go? The list of speakers is pretty amazing. Must resist being star-struck by Joel Comm. Do NOT ask for his autograph, Peggy.

I ran a 10K (6.2 miles) with my daughter, friend, and her daughter at the beginning of summer. That was a challenge, and so much fun when the actually running part was done! Now I’m concentrating on improving my 5K times so I can come in 1st place instead of 3rd at the Turkey Day 5K (transparency note – very very small race and I’m in the old lady division).

Hubs and I ride bikes when we can. Recently we rode up Vail Pass which is something I’ve always wanted to do. We’ve come down it several times (you can be shuttled to the top for a nice 18 mile glide down) but we’ve never gone up it. Our up was only about 7 or 8 miles, but did I mention it was UP?

Hubby riding back down Vail Pass.

Camping in the mountains next to an alpine lake for a weekend and one more trip planned in August. We have a popup tent trailer thingie that doesn’t get near enough use in my opinion.

We just got back from a week-long family reunion at a house on the water on Whidbey Island. The weather was perfect, the crabs were fresh and tasty, the hiking was amazing, the food and beer good, and there was water everywhere! Oh, and I even still like my relatives. They got a kick out of hearing my phone cha-ching every time my shop got a sale.

Waiting for the ferry to Whidbey Island.

The view from the deck of the house – Mt Baker.

Me and the kids after a hike.

As mentioned, I built a small bookcase and now I’m turning my daughter’s room into a guest room. We’re also getting granite countertops in the kitchen. The slabs are picked out and paid for, just waiting for the installation. Yay!

The veggie garden looks amazingly lush and we’ve been eating the broccoli, green beans and yellow squash. Lettuce is done and tomatoes and peppers aren’t even near ready. The grape vines are starting to cover the arbor over our patio and judging by the number of grapes, I’m going to have to learn how to make wine just to use them all.

Oh man, this sounds like a Christmas letter. At least I didn’t brag about my children.
Ok, your turn! I’d like to hear what you’ve been up to.

Love your photos and looks like you are having a wonderful summer. We just spend a week with our son and his girlfriend. Envy your granite countertop, one day! We did a few renovations this year including new shingles on the roof and a new floor and actually today we are getting in a water filter system that removes bacteria from the water. Haven’t been able to drink our well water and feel bad about using bottled water. In the end we will be saving money and won’t have to lug home cases of water anymore.

Work wise have been doing a lot of writing for clients and now have to get back into creating more of my own content.

We don’t have much luck with veggies as usually the mice and raccoon’s dig everything up! Have some beautiful morning glories though. Plus did I mention how hot and humid it has been in Canada this summer along with some wicked storms too.

    Hi Sue,
It’s always nice when you get to see your kids, isn’t it?

The granite counter top has been a long time coming. We have so many more things we’d like to do to the house. It’s about 15 years old now and it’s showing signs that it’s been well-lived in (with kids).

A new roof is not something you want to spend money on, but it does help the house value and keeps you snug. I can’t imagine hauling home all that bottled water!

Sorry about the heat, humidity and storms. We definitely don’t have humidity in Colorado, but the other side of that is wildfires.

I say YES to getting some writing done for yourself too! :)

    Hey Peg,

Great to see you and your family having a blast. Looks like someone could write a new 6-pack Abs product. :> I’ve been watching the temps in Colorado. Unbelievable. Oh, it’s dry heat. Great job on the 10K! Is that a bike trail your husband is riding over Vail. Man, I really miss that level of outdoor infrastructure that Colorado was so smart about. Even 30 years ago they were way ahead of 95% of the other states. Thanks for the share.

    Great summer so far, Peggy!

    Let’s see… some of my highlights…

We just got back from Lake Tahoe. We had a great time hiking, swimming, and went to a Moby concert; I think my wife, and I were the oldest concert goes there. :-)

I’ve been focusing on my fiction writing and book marketing. My first book’s sales have been nice and steady, so I’m working on getting book number two and three in this series out so I can capitalize on the success of the first book.

Thanks for sharing and the update!

Oh yeah, Kater, you used to live in Colorado. You’re so right on how well CO set up their “open spaces” to be enjoyed by everyone. That’s one thing I really love about here.

Yes, that’s a paved trail over Vail Pass. And instead of 6 pack abs, I’m going to write a pack on CrossFit, which my kids are really in to.

I’m so glad your cat came home. :) Cats aren’t outdoor cats around here or the foxes and coyotes get them.

Your summer sounds good, Alan! I really like the Lake Tahoe area. That’s where we honeymooned, many many years ago.

Having read your first fiction book, I am more than ready for you to get #2 and #3 out so I can read them too. I am so impressed by you. Congrats on your success!

You’ve had a great summer Peggy and sounds like fun. Even the ca ching of those sales coming in. Nice girl!

Love the photos of you and the kids. That scenery is beautiful and I’ve never been to Colorado so it’s gorgeous in the summertime. I bet you enjoy your garden while the weather is nice, yummy.

So glad you’ve had a great time although you’ve still been busy at work. Me too, no time for the weary.

Well I did take two trips in May and one short day trip in June. As you know our family reunion is this weekend, only a day gathering. Everyone is driving in for it the farthest being about 4 hours away. That doesn’t include my Uncle who lives in Florida but he’s driving through Texas and will be here for this one. They’ll be staying longer to visit with me and Mom so I’ll have company for a few days.

That’s it for me this summer I’m afraid but I don’t have the hubby or kids so all is well.

You have a great end of your summer and have fun at the event.

    Hi Peggy!

Sounds like you’re having a blast this summer. I’m jealous! And what’s wrong with bragging about your kids?

No vacations for me this summer, other than a couple days when my husband and I travel up to Mass. to pick up twin #1 from a percussion camp. Lots of dorm room shopping, shuttling kids back and forth, and working on my business. Actually, my trip to the Earn 1K a Day seminar was kind of like a vacation :) .

My main goal this summer is to hire a project manager and any other help I need in order to get a membership site set up (without killing myself in the process). Plus get my daughter safely off to college in just a few short weeks. Lots of tissues needed there.

Have fun with all the rest of your plans!

    Hi Adrienne,

Well it doesn’t look like you’ve slowed down work-wise, even with the trips. Good for you!

My reunion was at the most 23 people, although a few came and went because of work commitments. It was a whole week long for most of us! Whew. It included people from Fairfax, VA, CO, San Diego, CA, Tucson, AZ and WA.

Have a great time with yours!

I do plan to enjoy JVAlertLive this weekend and it will probably trigger a blog post or two.

Been busy with these kids and dare I say can’ t wait for school to begin again. I like the somewhat normalcy of the school year anyway lol.

I remember how crazy summers were when the kiddos were little. Sending you extra patience! :)

    Hi Peggy,
Thank you for this glimpse into your summer schedule. I loved the pictures. My children are all grown and gone, but I have grandchildren and even thee and 3/4 great-grandchildren now and I absolutely love for them to visit in the summer.

The business does change a bit, doesn’t it? Less blog posting, but continual research and writing. Thanks again for sharing.

    Hey Sharyn,
Your comment snuck in there. Sorry I didn’t answer sooner!

I love that you’re continually moving forward with your business – growing pains along with the successes. I wish I’d gone to 1KAD. Maybe we can meet up at NAMS11?

Good luck with getting your daughter off to college. It gets easier next time. :)

    Hello Ruth,

Thanks for popping in. Yes, our businesses do change – sometimes because we want them to and sometimes because our tribe or customers want them to. I like the evolution process, usually.

Best of luck with that 3/4 grandchild! ;)
