Do You Have Engagement From Scratch?

February 2, 2012 · Print This Article

Engagement From Scratch!, that’s the name of the book put together by Danny Iny of FirepoleMarketing.  I mentioned it very briefly in a previous post and said I’d give away a free copy chosen from one of my commenters. I’ll get to the winner in a minute, but first I want to encourage you to read this book.

Engagement From Scratch! is a book on important lessons learned about building audience in an online world. It’s not just Danny talking, its insightful and smart contributions from a lot of marketers. I love the tagline for the book:

“How super-community builders create a loyal audience and how you can do the same!”

Some of these wonderful pearls of wisdom come from Guy Kawasaki, Ana Hoffman, Brian Clark, Corbett Barr, Danny Brown, Derek Halpern, and Kristi Hines. I think there are 30 contributors all together.

There were many times that while reading the book I stopped dead and thought, “Brilliant. Not only do I love that, I can DO that.”

Danny Iny did a great  job with this book. Thank you Danny! :)

And now for the winner… Debi J!
Debi, please email me your physical address so I can pop it in the mail to you. Thanks! :)

    Hi Susanne,

I think you’re going to like it! Right now I’m reading the part by Marcus Sheridan about the 5 Levels of Networking Like a Superstar. Before that I read Derek Halpern’s Design+Format+Topic. I tend to jump around a lot!

    Thanks,
    Peggy

    Hi Peggy,

The snow sounds awesome…even if you have to dig out. :)

The book sounds awesome too. I’ll put it on my “to read” list. I just ordered “Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind” I can’t wait for it to get here. That’s my book budget for the month.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Patti

    Hi Patti,

It sure is purty out right now. :)
That book you mentioned sounds interesting. I’m going to have to go look it up…

It’s really interesting to see how Danny Iny planned his book, the “Engagement from Scratch“, the idea itself, everybody wants to learn how to engage, get attention of big players and popular bloggers, and be in their circles.

    Hi Shiliang,

Danny Iny is a smart guy, and what I really like about him (besides the fact that he’s engaging ;) ) is he experiences and learns from what he experiences. He’s also not afraid to learn from others, borrow their successes, and make them even better.

Then he gets everyone to share with us!

Congratulations Deb for winning this book. I do have it Peggy but have yet had a chance to read it. My gosh I’m so backlogged with things to do in my spare time it’s not even funny.

But, I was voted the “Engagement Superstar” over at Danny’s place shortly after his book release. Was thrilled and surprised I was even nominated but that was so much fun.

So now I need to read the darn book. Thanks for this reminder Peggy!

    Hi Adrienne,

I totally understand where you’re coming from with your comment on being backlogged. It seems the more I do, the more I want to do. Congrats on your nomination! You’ve had several good nominations lately. That’s because you engage, you’re friendly and helpful, and you’ve got something to say. :)

Interesting, although I must notice that the title of the book confused me. Engagement from Scratch more likely sounds to be something related to relationships rather than marketing.
Could you agree with me on this, Peggy?

Haha Eleonora! I guess if you didn’t know at all what the book was about you could get confused by the word “engagement”. :)

Everyone, thank you so much for your kind words about my book – my cheeks are all red!

And yeah, I know what you guys mean about being backlogged – there are currently 28(!) books on my desk and by my bed. But Engagement from Scratch! is the kind of book that you can flip back and forth through, and read the sections that interest you most – so it’s easy to “cheat” and push it to the top of the pile… ;-)

And Eleanora, it’s funny, I got married recently, and several of my friends thought the book would be about that. :-D
