Build a List, Sell a Product

October 8, 2007 · Print This Article

Yesterday morning I ran the Race for the Cure 5k.  Denver usually has the largest number of participants in the US and although I haven’t heard any official numbers, there were supposed to be roughly 67,000 people!

It is an awe-inspiring event to witness – a sea of people, mostly women, running or walking down 4 lanes of a usually traffic-clogged main road in downtown Denver.  They just keep coming and coming.  There are old people, overweight people, little kids, and tiny dogs who have probably never walked so far so willingly. I have never seen so many smiles in one place!  Here and there are women with pink hats on (survivors) and if you were wearing a hat yourself, you would take it off to them.

It sure makes the problems I’m having with my website seem very small, and rightly so.  I have a help ticket going with my web host, and a kind person has volunteered to help get a blog integrated with my website.

Meanwhile, I’m taking a step back to look at the whole picture and I am going over what needs to happen before I can start making money.

1.  Build a list.  I am working on my idea for a special report that people will want to opt-in to.  I’ll let you know what it’s going to be after I have a few more things in place. Then I have to work on the many ways to build my list.

2.  Sell a product.  This one has many parts.  A lot has to happen first!  Before I can sell a product I have to come up with one (I do have an idea for that), I need a name for my product, I need to learn how to put a title, etc. on the little ebook picture, I need to get that domain name and set up a website sales page for it, I need bonuses to add to my product for incentive, I need a one time offer, I need an upsell (or is it backsell?), I need to have an affiliate program in place, I need to ask others to put the word out…

Did I forget anything?
